Nantucket Study: San Juan County commissioned a study in 2000 of socioeconomic impacts of growth pressure in selected seasonal/resort communities. This questions explores what we have in common with Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Block Island & Aspen. Summary: the San Juan Islands are just like these other destinations, just 20 years behind (as of 2000).
Cost of Community Services: (COCS) Very short version: more people,higher taxes. For every dollar of tax revenue from new residential construction, it costs SJC $1.32 to provide services to that new structure.
